First, I like Scotty, but when I google shock absorbers for what I believe to be a CLS they start around $400 for the whole assembly as shown.
Next, I feel like it's engraved into my mind that air suspension systems fail all the time and are expensive to fix. I feel this is probably true but then I thought about the magneride systems or other magnetic dampening systems etc..
How do they compare to the reliability and cost of air systems?? I'm assuming better right.

Supposedly magnetic shocks are about $600 each, but they can be fooled with a resistor (since they are electronic)
Don't worry though, hopefully by the time they need to be replaced, Monroe will offer their OESpectrum version at like half price.
Yeah, I really hate air suspension and electronic shocks because they are impossible to get because they stop making them after a few years.

Wow. After watching three of this guy's videos, I have deduced that this gentleman really, really doesn't like Mercedes, or any other fancy-shmancy German car.

The OG lowrider guys know that last part way too well since the original hydraulics were literally picked off of scrapped WW2 bombers landing gear systems, good the heck luck finding reproductions of those!

I bought my Airmatic Struts with 1 year warranty for $225. $1k is if you go to the dealer, including markup. If you take care of the system, there shouldn't be any unforeseen problems. It's actually one of the most reliable that MB has.

Mercedes airmatic is actually pretty good, unless we're talking x164 or w251 front struts. We just sold an air strut the other day for about $200. As far as fancy schmancy suspension systems, air isn't necessarily that bad depending on the car it is from. Hydraulic is where it gets crazy. Mercedes ABC uses multiple valve blocks, accumulators an expensive tandem ABC/PS pump and more. Just a flush is about $600. These systems are amazing when working but can be a nightmare for your wallet when broken.

He installed an aftermarket reman Arnott strut. There is no way that cost $1100 unless whoever sold it to highways him and marked it up accordingly or he marked it up for his customer. We sell factory new ones for less than that.
